CHS Striders Step out Heart Disease

Members of Coronado High School participated in The Heart Walk Saturday, October 22nd. The walk was three miles and brought together hundreds of people from the community.
The event was held at the Spirit Ranch and started at 9:30 a.m. Co-Chair of the Heart Walk organization David Miller spoke to the crowd about the walk and thanked sponsors like the University Medical Center. He also honored the Little Mended Hearts organization, which is a support program for parents of children who have heart defects or heart disease.
After his speech, members from the Training Ground fitness center came up and led the crowd in some stretches before the walk began. The walk was initiated with a ribbon cutting at the starting point. Participants could choose to do either a three or one mile trail. All in all, Lubbock residents came close to achieving their fundraising goal of $100,000 and had a blast walking for awareness.
The money raised went to help the American Heart Association, which educates about heart disease and ways to prevent it. If you would like to make a donation or learn more about the American Heart Association, go to www.heartwalk.kintera.org.
