CHS Striders Stomp

Shoe soles rubbed away on the pavement as 50 participants from Coronado partook in the 18^th annual Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes on Saturday, September 17th. The CHS Striders raised a total of $275 dollars to help research a cure for diabetes.

The event was held at Mackenzie Park, and the Chairman of the Leadership Committee for Diabetes in Lubbock, John Brock, said a few words before the walk began. He made sure that all those there who have diabetes were given red caps to wear, to show how many people in our everyday lives are affected. Nearly 26 million Americans live with diabetes, and 25,000 of them reside in the Lubbock area.

After the National Anthem and a prayer had been given, the crowd of over 18,000 participants began their walk inside Mackenzie Park. Children and parents sported t-shirts with names of the groups they had come to walk with, and seas of blues, greens, and even rainbow made their way around the park. Cheerleaders from different schools, including Coronado, were there to welcome back the walkers at the finish line.

The money raised went to help the research to cure diabetes at Texas Tech University and the American Diabetes Association.  If you would like to make a donation or learn more about Step Out, go to www.stepout.diabetes.org.
