Two of Coronado’s athletes Susan and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Dimba have signed to Abilene Christian University (ACU), A Division II School in Abilene, Texas.

The signing was held in Coronado’s basketball gym where the twins, their mother and father, recruiters from Abilene Christian, The Girls’ Basketball team, student council, and Coronado’s Principal Lynn Akin were present to see this historic day for the twins.

Not everybody gets an opportunity as big as this, and with a scholarship comes major responsibility, but the Dimbas are extremely excited.

“We are really excited and nervous because we really don’t know what to expect,” Lizzie Dimba said, “but I feel like it’s going to be a really good chance for me and my sister to do great things.”

They plan to play basketball, but there are other athletic options open for the two new ACU signees.

“As of right now we’re just going to play basketball,” Lizzie Dimba said, “and maybe our fifth year try to play volleyball.”

With this exciting opportunity, they said they will not forget Coronado High School.

“We’re going to miss all our teammates, our coaches, principals, teachers, everything,” Susan Dimba said. “We’re really sad, but we’ll be back to visit, we’re only 2 hours away.”

Soon Abilene Christian will be a Division I school in the Southland Conference allowing the girls to play some tougher opponents.

“Well, we’re both really excited,” Susan Dimba said. “We’ve both always wanted to play Division I basketball, so it’s a really great chance to set the foundation and do some really great things there.”

With the girls leaving home, it’s sad for their family, but their father, Thomas Dimba, does not worry too much about them.

“So far I don’t have any worries,” Mr. Dimba said, “but they are really close to home and we will hopefully go watch all their games.”
