Making Up is Hard to Do

With fall, we welcome colorful leaves, chilly weather, and delicious pumpkin pie. Unfortunately for one West Texas city, this season also brought with it an immense amount of rainfall.

Midland, Texas received record amounts of rain on Friday, September 28, with about 3 inches in only 18 hours.  With darkening skies and pouring rainfall, school was cancelled.

So why are Coronado football players, volleyball teams, cheerleaders, band, and other students packed onto buses on their way there?

For homecoming, of course! Midland High School is so determined to keep their homecoming game for tonight in play; they have opted to continue the games even in flood-worthy weather.

Despite flooded streets and the ominous signs of more storms to come, a couple hundred Coronado students have headed south to the rain-soaked Grande Communications Stadium.

Mustang buses pulled out at about 1:30 this afternoon, ready to spoil the Midland Lee’s homecoming with our slightly drenched football cleats poised to play hard.

Midland has made it evident that making up the homecoming is hard to do, even if they have to push through a surging sea of rainwater plaguing the streets.
