Lubbocked Awarded with Good Reason!

Lubbock storms into history for not the first, but the second time. Only one hundred of the three hundred twenty contestants could receive the respected title of Best Community for Young Adults. As colorful pom-poms waved in union I realized this was anything but a regular spirit rally. Bands played extravagantly and signs swayed ungracefully in excitement. The Lubbock City Council lined up in front, proudly admiring the enthusiasm of the crowd. For the first time in my life, I saw a brilliant display of amalgamation between Monterey plains-men and Coronado mustangs. And it blew me away.

Many community organizations such as the Walk for Diabetes, Lemonade Day, and the Boys and Girls Club, are the reasons we earned this title. Lemonade Day was primarily created by Prepared 4 life, it is a fun learning program where communities across the nation come together to educate youth how to start, own and operate their own business through a lemonade stand. But many views on Lubbock are still bitter sour.                         

Senior Preston Harmon said “I hate Lubbock. The people are fake the food is bad and there are so many fake people. I’m scared to touch someone because they all have STDs. I don’t ever want to go running because I am afraid I will get kid-napped or raped.”

People constantly bicker and whine about how boring Lubbock is, but the truth is, Lubbock can be anything but boring. Being a part of these organizations can change your life; even change your view of life. As the nation shrieks, and sinks in debt, Lubbock has stayed strong pulling together to make a difference.               

Organizations such as the Early Learning Centers of Lubbock Inc. make Lubbock a better place for children under the age of 12. They also give them the nutrition they need to grow and prosper.
